Be Informed- Proposed development of offices and retail space on the land adjacent to the school campus on 151st next to our playground. The proposed through street will be only 20 feet from the border of the playground, and one of the entries/exits is planned for Monrovia about 10-20 feet north of the bus lane exit, and the developer intends to include 145 parking spaces. For the retail section, they expect to have 2-3 businesses on the site, which could be anything under the umbrella of CP-1. (That includes anything retail except a liquor store.)
PTO Playground Announcement
Morse is due for a playground renovation and update from the district. This will include covering the loose mulch with a padded, flat surface, removing the existing coniferous trees (safety hazard), removing ramps and adding small ropes equipment as pictured here. PTO Upgrades! Let’s make this happen!
The district will allow our school PTO to provide money to further the upgrades during this time of renovation. The PTO board has voted to devote all funds from our community events for 2016-2017 (Harvest Hustle, Father Daughter Dance, Trivia Night, and Fun Run/Carnival) to this purpose. Our goal is to invest a minimum of $20,000 on these upgrades and we’ll need your help and participation at our community events. Once the new surface is installed over the summer, we will not have another opportunity to add equipment for several years.
Things to know:
The Morse Elementary School Staff are working hard to meet the needs of each student every day. We can help them by providing an opportunity for them to innovate with new tools, tried and true tools, and resources that the district is unable to provide due to budget restrictions. Our PTO does this through the grant process.
Teachers write grant applications with detailed information about what they would like to purchase, how it will be used, and how they expect it will enhance the learning environment. A group of parents will review the grants to determine which grants will be funded with the money from our Take Stock program. Then, those parents do a surprise squad around the school, awarding the grants! Last year, PTO gave more than $14,000 in grants thanks to so many families participating in Take Stock. For a full list of grants awarded last year, click this link: 2015-2016 Grants.
The Morse PTO is in need a few more parents to fill our committee ranks for the year. Our most dire needs are a Trivia Night Chair Person, School Supplies Coordinator, Staff Appreciation Week Chairperson, Spirit Night Coordinator, 5th Grade Fairwell Co-Chair, Staff Lunch coordinator, and Volunteer Appreciation Chair. Many of these positions can be filled by working parents, and require little or no physical presence during the school day. Several are seasonal, or related to a specific date(s).
If you would like to know more about which of these roles would work best for you, please contact Theresa Korte at firstname.lastname@example.org or call (913)839-3241. A PTO board member will be available to speak to anyone interested during Back To School Night in the library. There will also be spirit wear, cookies and volunteer sign-ups in the library.
Thank you to everyone who answered the call for our need of a co-treasurer. The position is being filled!
Your new board as well as staff representatives met last week to discuss our plans for the coming 2016-2017 school year. We have lots of exciting plans and news, so stay tuned! The board will meet again in July to finalize our start of school plans. We are still looking for lots of help with committees and other activities. Please check our volunteer page regularly for our needs.
